Postal travelled to Tarves for this 2nd round Aberdeen FC Trophy tie. The home side are in the top half of the Premier League so a tough encounter was on the cards.

With Carter out through injury, Stuart moved into right back with Taylor shifting across to right midfield.

The first half saw Postal shooting up the considerable Tarves slope. Postal were understandably defending deep but on a number of occasions used Framptons pace to get round the back of the Tarves defence on the counter attack.

It was Tarves who took the lead on 15 minutes.

A clearance from the Postal keeper wasn't challenged in midfield and was headed straight down the middle of the Postal defence. A Tarves forward latched on to the ball first, raced past the static Postal defence and slotted past keeper Laing. A poor goal to lose given how well Postal had been defending up till that point. 1-0.

Credit to Postal they kept battling away though and limited Tarves to half chances at best for the remainder of the first half.

On 42 minutes Taylor played a good through ball to Frampton who raced through but the keeper managed to save. Another good counter attack.

HALF TIME - TARVES 1 - POSTAL ALC 0

It was thought that shooting down the slope second half would afford Postal more chance to attack but the first half was as good as Postal got as an attacking force.

Laing made a good save for Postal a minute into the second half when a miss-kick from Steer saw the ball bounce through to a Tarves attacker who bore down on goal only for Laing to save and keep Postal in the tie.

A minute later Postal had a half chance when a mistake from the Tarves keeper saw the ball fall to Law with the keeper way off his line near the edge of his box. Law tried to beat him from distance but the shot wasn't high enough and the keeper gathered the shot no problem.

Postal were defending well again in the second half and would be disappointed with the second goal which came 16 minutes into the half, as another seemingly danger free long ball again went straight down the centre of the absent Postal defence where the number 9 for Tarves ran through completely unmarked and unchallenged to slot home. 2-0.

Two minutes later and the tie was over as a contest. With Postal thinking the ball had went out for a throw on the Postal left the ref waved play on. The ball was worked to the edge of the box where a Tarves player fired home from distance. 3-0.

Credit to Postal they didn't lay down and die though. For the remaining 27 minutes they battled hard to keep the result respectable although never really threatened the Tarves defence.

Overall the goals we lost today were avoidable but the workrate, and character of the side couldn't be questioned today. Each one of the squad put in a good shift against a team from a higher division. The question now is whether Postal can take that performance and attitude into the remaining games of the season.
