OPPOSITION MOTM – B.Patterson

Postal arrived for the first home game of the season in confident mood after their win at Aboyne the previous week. Robertson missed out with injury and was replaced in the starting 11 with John Black (Carter moving into midfield). Cormack started in goal today.

Jesus House were hit with a setback prior to the game when their goalkeeper got injured during the warmup.

Postal got off to the ideal start. Only 1 minute into the match Lamb played Insch in behind the Jesus House right back. His cut back was cleared for a corner. From the resulting corner, Dowbekin scored his first competitive goal for the club. 1-0.

It only took the away side 5 minutes to score an equaliser, though. A corner from the Postal right saw Postal twice have the chance to clear it, but failed. When the ball broke to the Jesus House player just inside the box he made no mistake to sweep it into the net. Poor defending all round from Postal who possibly thought the game was already won. 1-1.

Postal dominated the play and any football being played was coming from Postal but now and then the ball was being lost due to slackness so it was a tad nervy on the sidelines at times.

On 18 minutes Postal regained the lead. Hunter was fouled about 20 yards out. Lamb stepped up to send a low shot past the despairing stand-in goaley. 2-1.

Two minutes later and Lamb sent in another free kick from a bit further out. This time it was sent high into the box. Patterson met the header well, but it was saved and he then sent the rebound over the bar when it looked easier to score.

A moment of madness from Black on 30 minutes saw the big man lash out at one of the Jesus House players inside the Jesus House half. No complaints from the Postal management when he was shown a straight red card but not good for the anxiety levels. Postal changed immediately to 4-4-1 with Carter dropping into the back 4.

Postal doubled their lead on 35 minutes when the opposition gave yet another foul away just outside their own box on the Postal left. This time Riddell stepped forward and saw his shot deflected into the net. 3-1.

The game was wrapped up before half time when Ure scored another double on 40 and 42 minutes. The Postal veteran is thriving in his new position higher up the park and he took both his finishes well. The first came from an Insch cross over the top which Ure hit first time to score. The second came when a through ball from Patterson fell to Dowbekin who played in Ure to slot past the keeper. 5-1.

HALF TIME – POSTAL ALC 5 – JESUS HOUSE 1

Postal started the second half the way they finished the first with a quick goal. It only took 4 minutes when Dowbekin stole the ball from the House defence and stabbed it pas the on-running keeper. 6-1.

Postal then started putting on their 4 subs.

On 21 minutes Postal scored their 7th. Lamb picked up a pass from Riddell, composed himself then sent a long distance shot past the keeper low into this net. 7-1.

The referee evened up the players on the pitch soon after when the frustrated House full back verbally abused him. Another straight red.

Postal finished the scoring on 40 minutes when, new signing, Ingram scored a header from a Frampton corner. 8-1.

Overall, a physical game today but Postal did really well to play round the physicality for the best part of the game and to score 8 goals while playing an hour with ten men was impressive. Jesus House were unlucky to lose their keeper before the game but even a first choice keeper would have struggled to keep Postal out today. Well done.
