OPPOSITION MOTM – S.Ure
Postal arrived to Webster Park on a sunny and warm late Aug afternoon to face Ferryhill in this Div 2 East League encounter. A large, colourful and noisy support were out in force on the hill for Postal today.
Postal welcomed back Cormack into the goal, Carter into midfield and Frampton up top.
Postal, shooting up the hill first half, survived a scare only 1 minute into the match when they gave away a free kick on the right of the pitch. The free kick was aimed to the back post and, luckily for Postal, the unmarked Ferryhill player, running in, miss-timed his header and the ball went out to safety.
Postal dominated, from that scare onward and found the net on 9 minutes. Ferryhill had managed to clear their lines from a Postal attack but only as far as Riddell on the Postal right. He sent in a great cross which found the on-running Ure to bullet home a header past his former team. A really good goal and finish from Ure who is on a goal scoring streak at the moment. 1-0.
Two minutes later and Postal doubled their lead. Frampton was crudely fouled near the bye line, in the box. Penalty correctly awarded. He dusted himself down and put the ball past the keeper low to the keepers left hand side. Good penalty. 2-0.
On 15 minutes, a terrific corner from Lamb, on the postal right, was met by Patterson but the header was cleared off the line.
On 20 minutes Frampton met a long throw with a flick on which hit the post and away to safety.
Ure found himself one on one with the keeper on 22 minutes but his shot was saved by the impressive Ferryhill keeper. Frampton missed the rebound too.
Lamb’s corners were causing havoc in the Hill defence and Patterson connected with another on 33 minutes but it was again blocked on the line.
Just before half time a clever short corner, this time, from Lamb to Stuart saw the wide man run into the box and get a powerful shot away from 12 yards out which the keeper did well to save.
HALF TIME – POSTAL ALC 2 – Ferryhill 0
Postal started the second half the way they ended the first. On the attack.
Ure had a header saved in the first minute following a Clark ball over the top.
A Riddell free kick on 4 minutes was met by Black but his effort went past the post.
Sitter of the match on 6 minutes. Frampton did really well to not give up on getting to a ball on the bye line in the box on the Postal right. His cut back found Hunter but his shot sailed over the bar when it looked easier to score.
The game was put to bed 2 minutes later. A Lamb free kick was saved by the Ferryhill keeper who managed to put it out for a corner. From the resultant corner, Black headed towards goal and Ure made sure by getting the last touch to head over the line. Game over. 3-0.
Hunter made up for his earlier miss on 15 minutes with a contender for goal of the season. From 30 yards out he controlled a bouncing ball and slammed the ball high into the net. 4-0.
Postal took the chance to get Cotovici and Davidson on with 30 minutes to go. Cotovici latched on to a through ball from Ure almost immediately and made the Hill keeper make another good save. From the resulting corner Ure hit the bar with a header.
30 minutes into the second half and Davidson hit the bar from distance when he picked up the ball about 20 yards out, created space for himself and got his long distance shot away. Unlucky.
Postal made it 5, two minutes later when a long distance shot from Lamb was deflected low into the net. 5-0.
Ian Bruce made a cameo with ten minutes to go and nearly scored almost as soon as he came on when he was played in by Lamb on the Postal left and did well to get a low shot away which the keeper saved.
On 42 minutes, right back Riddell demanded the ball when Postal were awarded a free kick just outside the box. He struck the ball low past the keeper to make it 6-0.
The scoring was completed with a minute to go when Davidson found himself unmarked inside the box. Ferryhill must have thought he was offside. The front man composed himself and shot low past the keeper. 7-0.
Overall, an impressive performance from Postal who looked much tighter at the back today, and continued their free flowing attacking style which has been shown in the opening 4 games of the season. Well done.
