POSTAL ALC 1 - NEWMACHAR 0 - AAFA Div2 - WEBSTER PARK - SAT 2nd AUG

Postal kicked off their 2025/26 campaign in revealing style with a new home kit, game day apparel and training tops.  

Postal finished 6th place last term and with the new league structure will play in a very competitive Division 2. 

Postal faced off against Newmachar 3 times last year coming out on top on two of the encounters.

Postal kicked off the match for the 5th game running.  

On 2 min a long ball over the top was left by Veitch, Riddell assuming Veitch was going to head the ball let the energetic number 10 run through.  10 picked up the ball rounded Grant, luckily for Postal Veitch got back in time to clear the danger for a corner.  

4th min throw in to Harry seen the tall striker lay the ball off to Wallace who seen his shot go wide from 19 yards. 

10 minutes gone on the clock Harry was brought down.  A Riddell free kick sees Luca head over the bar. 

13th min a similar pattern of play as Riddell crossed to MacAuley who couldnt grow tall enough to get his head on the ball. 

On the 20th min Postal get a free kick, as the play breaks down Newmachar attack with real intent and the tall number 9 hits a shot from range just wide. 

On the 25th min Postal thought they had the lead, a deep Riddell cross was met by Abel on the volley using the outside of his foot however the ball whistled wide.  

The first half ended without a great deal of quality from both sides.  Long ball football was the order of the day.  

HT 

Postal had a real scare on 47 minutes, long ball up to 9 seen the striker cushion the ball off to number 7 who slotted home, however was called offside by the official. 

The match winner came from Postal on the 48th min.  A free kick to Postal was taken by Riddell to Phil just over the half way line, Phil slipped the ball to Luca who struck a left footed drive into the top corner from 35 yards.  Great goal to separate the teams.

52nd minute Riddell is forced off with an injury replaced by Buggie. 

65th min Wallace fouled however the Abel free kick is well saved. 

70th minute Duncan MacKenzie on for MacAuley. 

72nd minute Stuart on for Ahmed.

85th minute Macrae and Veitch go for the same ball, look at each other as if in a Spiderman meme, do nothing and number 7 races towards goal.  Cormack racing out does well to slow the attacker down however ultimately the forward is clean through on an empty Postal net........until Postal Stalwart Scott Stuart  arrives from no where and wins a clean tackle.  Excellent tackle to deny Newmachar a point. 

87th min Stuart free kick is met by Veitch but sails wide . 

88th min Newmachar 5 misses the ball and Abel is one on one with the keeper.  Electing to chip the keeper the ball bounces off the bar and away to safety.  

90th min just as everyone was expecting the game to end, Newmachar number 10 finds himself one on one with Cormack.  The striker pulled his shot wide and Postal claimed the 3 points.

Not a great performance today.  No real rhythm, passing or quality that has been shown all the way through preseason. The boys did however grit their teeth and show great mentality to battle through a difficult opening fixture.  Great start to the new season.
