OPPOSITION MOTM – N/A
Covid friendly number 6. This week versus Div 1 East side Halliburton.
A fairly dour game it must be said with a lot of hard work from both sides but not a lot of clear cut chances. The vast majority of the game being fought out in the middle of the park for most of the afternoon.
A fairly even first 15 minutes saw Postal create the first half chance of the half. Mewse and Maciver did well to win the ball near the opposition corner flag on the Postal right. Maciver fired a driven cross across the 6 yard box where it was cleared only as far as Postal’s Ure on the edge of the box. His long range effort was blocked though.
Halliburton began to come more into the game and had a number of corners one of which hit the corner of the bar/post on 30 minutes.
Apart from that chances were few and far between.
HALF TIME – POSTAL ALC 0 – Halliburton 0
As usual in these Covid friendlies, Postal made changes at half time with all 5 of the subs coming on.
Postal had a great chance to take the lead 2 minutes into the second half. Maciver did well to collect the ball on the right of the box, nutmeg his marker and drive in, but his shot was wild and sailed over (way over) the bar.
Five minutes later and good combination play between subs Frampton and Stuart on the left eventually saw the ball worked to Taylor just outside the box but his shot also went over the bar from distance.
Not a great deal more to write about to be honest. Postal probably had more of the second half without creating any clear cut chances. The Postal defence did well today and limited their first division visitors to very little in the way of chances either.
Postal had a half chance on 40 minutes when a good cross was sent int to find Cain at the back post but as much as he stretched he couldn’t make contact and it went out for a bye kick.
Overall, a lot of hard work, and another decent work out. Defensively Postal were much better today against an experienced side but could be doing with a bit more quality going forward, if we are being critical. Well done though, attitude was excellent throughout the team today.
