Postal shuffled the pack again today when they travelled to 1st Division Kintore. Riddell, Ure and Mewse came back into the starting 11 with Maciver, Beattie and Stuart also coming back into the squad starting on the bench.
Postal started slowly today and had a disaster of a start when they found themselves two behind within only 5 minutes.
The first came on 2 minutes. A corner into the box saw the ball bounce off Coutts on the line and drop to the feet of the waiting Kintore player who knocked it home. 1-0.
With Postal still trying to find their feet the second arrived soon after. A free kick was given away just outside the box. It was taken fairly quickly but Laing, in goal, would have been disappointed to react slowly to the shot which found it’s way into the net low to the keeper’s left hand post. 2-0.
A third looked as if it could have been on the cards with numerous set pieces raining into the Postal box with Postal looking slow to organise themselves to pick up their markers.
Slowly but surely Postal grew into the game though and had their own chance when a Mewse header was cleared off the line. The ball dropped to Ure for Postal but his shot was straight at the Kintore keeper who saved easily.
On 17 minutes Laing for Postal made a good save at his right hand side post after poor defensive play from Postal down the postal right saw the player bare down on goal and get his shot away with Laing did well to save.
On 34 minutes with Postal becoming the dominant force in the game Mewse did well to hunt down the Kintore keeper, win the ball and square to Robertson about 12 yards out. His left foot shot lacked power though and it was cleared off the line to safety.
Postal finished the half strongly and more than matched the home side.
HALF TIME – Kintore 2 - POSTAL ALC 0
Postal made changes at half time with all the subs coming on.
On 11 minutes Kintore made a good save from Stuart after a great ball across the face of the Kintore box.
Postal were looking the team most likely to score at this point in the second half but it was Kintore who increased their lead on 24 minutes when the Postal defence fell asleep. Kintore worked the ball down the Postal right, got their cross in far too easily which found the Postal central defence missing as two forwards stood unmarked and one of them headed the ball home unchallenged. Too easy. 3-0.
Two minutes later, substitute Hunter sent a free kick just over the bar for Postal.
On 28 minutes Insch got a shout away from outside the box after it dropped to him after a corner but it sailed over the bar.
A superb cross/pass from Maciver on 33 minutes from the Postal right saw Frampton latch on to the ball but his shot went wide.
On 36 minutes Frampton thought he had scored when he nicked the ball from keeper and put it into the empty net but the ref thought Frampton had kicked it out of the keeper’s hands and gave Kintore a foul.
Postal pulled one back on 40 minutes when a great run from Stuart on the left saw him drive into the box, play in Frampton who slipped it past the keeper. 3-1.
Overall, apart from the first ten minutes Postal more than competed today with an argument to say they were the better team. Poor defending killed us today but hopefully a lesson learned.
