OPPOSITION MOTM – P.FRAMPTON

Postal continued their 2020 plummet down the league with this disappointing result away to BSFC at a windy Balgownie.

Postal rang the changes after the Glendale game. Laing started back in goal, Carter was welcomed back at right back after his suspension with Stuart moving across to left back. Taylor came back into centre mid with Law moving up front with Frampton.

Much like the recent results, Postal started the game well (although they also had the wind at their back to be fair).

A corner to Postal only 2 minutes into the match saw Postal nearly snatch an early opener when the corner was just cleared off the line after a some confusion in the BSFC box.

2 minutes later and Law created a chance for himself when he collected the ball on the edge of the box drove in and fired in a low shot which the keeper did well to turn round his left hand side post.

Postal were dominating the match at this point with BSFC offering very little. The away side took the lead on 21 minutes. Nice play between Beattie, and Law saw Law play a great through ball to Frampton who kept his composure to round the keeper and slip it into the net from a tight angle. 0-1.

With the message from the sideline to "keep it tight for the next 5 minutes"...……..Postal did the exact opposite when BSFC equalised just 3 minutes later.

Postal defending deep just outside their own 18 yard box saw BSFC work the ball out to their unmarked number 7 on their right hand wing. His cross was met by an on-running unmarked midfielder on the edge of the box to fire home from distance past the Laing in goal. A great finish but lazy lazy marking from Postal. 1-1.

On 27 minutes a long shot from Postal's Carter was saved. From the resulting corner Patterson's header went just wide.

On 40 minutes a superb cross from the Postal right was just missed by the in-running Frampton who just failed to connect.

HALF TIME - BSFC 1 - POSTAL ALC 1.

On two minutes of the second half Postal were denied what looked like a certain penalty. Frampton was sent through on goal. He was fouled outside the box but the referee allowed the play to keep going. It then looked like he was also fouled inside the box but the ref pulled the game back to give Postal a free kick outside the box which Robertson then sent over the bar.

With the wind no longer behind Postal they were failing to create as many chances as they did the first half and BSFC were starting to come into the game.

17 minutes into the half and BSFC took the lead. A long throw from, ex-Postie, Billy Laws was sent into the Postal box. The Postal defence had two chances to head clear but failed to do so, and, predictably, if you allow the ball to bounce around in your six yard box there's a good chance that it'll be knocked into the back of net which it duly was.

2-1.

Postal cut their own throat less than a minute later. A short header from Stuart, which was supposed to be back to the Postal keeper, was picked up by a BSFC forward who made no mistake to double the home side's lead. Disappointing for Stuart and Postal, who, up until that point, had been Postal's best player from full back. 3-1.

Stuart had a chance to get one back 26 minutes into the half when he got on the end of a Carter cross but his header sailed over the bar.

Postal huffed and puffed for the remainder of the game but honestly looked as if the 3rd goal had knocked the stuffing out of them with the experienced BSFC defence killing the game.

Overall, very disappointing result. Had most of the play but individual mistakes is killing Postal at the moment and another 3 goals against has killed any hope of 1st Div football next season.

Thankfully a weekend off league duty this Saturday with Feughside in the Quarter Final of the Dickie Trophy at Webster Park. No further incentive needed to get back to winning ways with a Semi Final place on offer. Cant wait.
