THEOLOGIANS 1 - POSTAL ALC 6
With the rain bucketing down on the Friday, it was thought that this fixture might have been in doubt but Postal arrived at Hazelhead to face Theologians in sweltering hot conditions, sunny overhead and the pitches looking as good as they have ever.
Due to injuries and holidays Postal had to shuffle the pack again with Carter coming back into right back, Coutts at left back and Insch on the left of midfield.
Postal had the perfect start when they took the lead after only 37 seconds when Reece Law converted from just outside the box for his first of the season and for the club. 0-1.
On 8 minutes, a long ball down the middle of the park, saw Robertson head the ball on. Mcanespie battered through the defence into the box and when the ball was passed to Malseed he unfortunately put it past the post.
On 9 minutes a great through ball to Insch saw him get his shot away from just inside the left of the box but the keeper made a good save to put it out for a corner. From the resultant corner the ball was cut back by Malseed to Law who scored his second of the game. 0-2.
With Postal dominating proceedings they handed Theos a gift on 19 minutes when a kickout from the Postal keeper was sclaffed straight to the Theologians striker who made no mistake to fire home. 1-2.
Postal didn’t let it affect them too much though and 5 minutes later they made it 1-3, in unusual circumstances. With Postal attacking down the right, a dog came on the pitch. The game was stopped till it was removed and from the drop ball, Malseed skinned his man on the right, cut back to McAnespie who drilled home.
Postal’s Ure was next on the scoresheet. He picked up the ball on the edge of the box worked it from his left to right foot then drilled his shot home (although it may have taken a deflection on the way in). 1-4.
On 40 minutes, Postal made it 5 when a great chip from Insch on the left was headed into the net by Law for his hat-trick. 1-5.
HALF TIME – THEOLOGIANS 1 – POSTAL ALC 5.
A moment of madness 5 minutes into the second half could have changed the game when Postal’s Carter got himself sent off. A slight altercation with the Postal strikers and Theos defenders saw Carter run from defence and push the Theos player right under the ref’s nose. Poor decision making from Carter who was arguably the best player on the park up until that point. Luckily it never really changed the game and Postal continued to dominate.
On 7 minutes a great run down the left by Coutts saw his cross met by McAnespie, but his shot went straight at the keeper who saved. He made amends 3 minutes later though when he turned his man easily and fired home for his second of the game. 1-6.
Postal had a few more chances before the match ended with the impressive Insch missing a couple from being played in down the left but the game petered out with no more scoring.
