On a warm and sunny evening, Postal had their first midweek game of the season. Webster Park was looking in good condition, if a wee bit bobbly, and Glendale were the visitors. After defeat out at Maryculter 10 days ago, Postal had been presented with an early chance at getting some revenge - how would they respond. Same team line up as Saturday's draw against Monymusk with the challenge laid down to prove they are good enough to be in the team and challenge a top team in our league.

5 minutes in and Glendale had been firing long ball after long ball which the back four was struggling with. A corner was forced and flighted over from the right hand side which was well defended by Alex. However the Glendale player picked it up 25 yards out and smashed a tremendous shot off the cross bar. Really good effort and unlucky. Both teams tried to get football going but it wasn't really happening. Long ball was Glendale's game and Postal couldn't get a foot on the ball. Neither team were pleasing on the eye but Glendale were winning every second ball.

After half an hour Postal started to come into the game a bit more. Still lacking quality on the ball but trying to play passes and get Phil on the ball more. Frustration was creeping in as the ball wasn't sticking up front. There was a moment were Riddell was the victim of a really bad, high tackle which resulted in stud marks right up his right thigh. Referee was more interested in the sidelines reaction and booked the coach while ignoring even talking to the Glendale player. Odd! Finally, a wee reaction from the incident though and a ball from Riddell on the right looped over the defence. Sully skinned the Glendale player and fired a shot on target only for the goalkeeper to make an incredible save and tip the ball on to the crossbar. What a save. From the resulting corner Euan was unlucky with a header.

The first half had been odd with nothing really between the teams other than Glendale's long ball still causing issues and them winning the vast majority of second ball. It all kicked off in the last couple of minutes though. Long ball broke to the Glendale right winger who delivered a great cross to the back post. Grant and Adam both misjudged the flight of the ball and it landed to the Glendale striker about 5 yards out who unbelievably put the ball over the crossbar. Really bad miss. Then a couple of minutes later the Glendale midfielder has a long, hopeful shot which Grant fumbled and the forward wandered in and scored the rebound. Looked like a nice finish but the referee called for offside. Two big let offs just before the halftime whistle.

Halftime brought words of encouragement. Still right in the game and honours even but need to compete better and have more quality on the ball. Adam had to go off with a hamstring injury and was replaced by Doug which resulted in a wee jig to the shape of the team.

Second half started brighter with Postal looking much better on the press and preventing the long ball. After 50 minutes the Glendale goalkeeper sent a long kick into the heart of the Postal defence. One bounce and Euan was now flapping. He tried to get a head on it but only managed to head over Grant and into the goal. Need to be much more commanding than this and a poor goal. 0-1. Important to reset and not lose the head when you go a goal down but Postal managed the complete opposite. A freekick in from the right-hand side not two minutes later was left by the whole defence and after bouncing twice in the box the Glendale player got a header with no pressure and it was in the back of the net. 0-2.

Too many Postal players looked shocked and resigned. Things looked like they might unravel until a gift was presented. A forward pass was quite poor but the Glendale centre back had a fresh air swipe and missed the ball. Sully on to it in a flash and produced a great finish. Back in the game. 1-2. To be honest it was somewhat of a false dawn as the normal bounce never materialised. Glendale were still hungrier to the second ball and sticking to the long ball. Six or seven minutes after the Postal goal another one was poorly dealt with by Steele at the back and with Euan simply looking on the Glendale forward had the time to turn and fire into the bottom corner. Nice finish but another soft goal. 1-3.

Postal did manage a small rally and forced a quick corner which Bruce was unlucky with his header going wide. A change was made with Craig coming on for Luca. On 70 minutes the referee gave a foul for the defender holding Harry. First and only time this happened all night. Riddell swung in a nice cross and after a stramash in the box Euan got kicked from behind about 7 yards out and right in front of the referee. He gave a freekick to Glendale. Baffling! A few minutes later another ball from Riddell caused some problems and Euan went down again. This time a penalty. It looked really soft, especially compared to the first one but what a gift to get right back in the game. Sully stepped up and mishit the ball which allowed the goalkeeper to make the save. Penalty miss and what felt like a real resignation from the players that that was that.

On 75 minutes Postal tried to play out from the back but Steeler slipped and the ball found it's way to the Glendale right winger. He swung a cross over which Riddell tried to block but smashed into his own net. Unlucky but poor in the build up defensively again. 1-4.  Andreas came on for Harry, Dunc came on for Sully and Scott came on for Phil in a last ditch attempt to get back in the game. Duncan produced some great play down the left hand side, ghosted past his man and played a great cross over which Andreas and Doug were just slightly behind. Glendale continued their game though and played out the last ten minutes making a couple more chances of their own.

Final Score

Postal 1 Glendale 4

Disappointing result tonight but can't be any complaints. Beaten by the better team and likely one of the best performances seen at Webster Park this season. Glendale looked hungrier to every first and second ball and capitalised on all the mistakes we kept making defensively. No point feeling sorry for ourselves though as the games come thick and fast as we finish out the season. 1 point from the last 9 available is a poor return and we need to find a way of turning it around. Boys seem to have lost believe a wee bit but still have the talent if they start believing again.
