Postal travelled to Huntly today with a vastly depleted squad for this 2nd Div North game. Postal have been beaten by Huntly twice already this season with both games being closely fought encounters so a tough game was on the cards.

Postal got off to the ideal start when they were awarded a penalty after only 50 seconds. Robertson had a half chance when his shot was blocked on the 6 yard box. When the ball fell to Stuart on the Postal right he was crudely pulled down in the box after beating the defender. McAnespie stepped forward and drilled the ball into the net from the spot. 0-1.

On 12 minutes, a good run by Mackie down the left saw him play the ball across the face of the box but Kydd just missed the ball at the back post.

A couple of minutes later Laing in goal for Postal made a good stop. Left back, Mackie got rag-dolled on the Postal left and when his man sent in a cross Laing saved from the resultant shot.

Postal were causing all sorts of problems down the Huntly right at this point in the game, and were rewarded again when Huntly thought the ball was going out of play. Mackie kept on playing, passed the ball up the line where Sheils picked it up and played a great cross onto the head of Kydd who directed his header past the Huntly keeper. 0-2.

Annoyingly Postal started to get deeper and deeper as the half went on as they allowed Huntly to dominate procession.

Huntly were rewarded on 27 minutes. A bad pass from Postal's Robertson saw the ball fall to a Huntly player. His first shot was initially blocked but not cleared any distance by Postal and when the ball fell to the Huntly player he made no mistake to send the ball low into the net past Laing. 1-2.

The rest of the half was dominated by Huntly as Postal continued to sit too deep and stopped playing the football they had been playing the first 20 minutes.

HALF TIME - HUNTLY 1 - POSTAL ALC 2

Postal didn't start the second half much better than they had ended the first. Huntly were still fairly dominant as they continued winning the first balls and Postal struggled to get out of their own half.

Huntly got their equaliser in bizarre fashion on 10 minutes. Postal had been struggling to clear their lines and gave away another free kick in the centre of the Postal half, directly in front of the goal but too far away for any serious effort on goal......……..or so you would think. With the defenders defending on the 18 yard line, the Huntly free kick taker took one of the slowest trundlers of a free kick from about 30 yards. Unbelievably Postal let it trundle through and into the net. Another gift. 2-2.

This seemed to spring Postal back to life thankfully and the rest of the half swung back and forth, but Postal definitely had the better of the chances to win the game.

The first came on 14 minutes, when a Coutts shot saw the ball fall to Beattie all alone on the 6 yard box with only the keeper to beat when the rest of the Huntly defence stood static on the 18 yard box. Unfortunately for Postal he contrived to send the ball over the bar when it looked easier to hit the target.

5 minutes later and Postal wasted another great chance. A Stuart free kick on the Postal right, just out side the box was chipped directly onto Patterson's head but he sent it over the bar.

On 27 minutes Stuart did well to battle for the ball just inside the Huntly box, but he lent back when he got his shot away and, again, the ball sored over the bar.

On 30 minutes Sheils was sent in on goal, in the box on the Postal left. With only the keeper to beat it looked a stick on goal as he bore down on the 6 yard box.........…......until he decided to try and square it to strike partner Kydd who was marked by at least one Huntly defender and the ball was cleared to safety. Poor decision making at the vital moment.

On 33 minutes Kydd was sent through on goal but as he raced through, the referee bizarrely pulled it back for offside. A bad decision at a crucial time.

If you miss that many chances in the amateurs, it's usually the case that you will get punished for it, but, although Huntly came more into the game again in the final 10 minutes Postal never conceded any more goals.

FULL TIME - HUNTLY 2 - POSTAL ALC 2

Man Of The Match - PAUL COUTTS

Overall, another frustrating day for the Postal sideline. After going into the lead by two goals it's disappointing to give another 2 away as gifts. The chances we missed today were also disappointing.

All that said, the effort was excellent again today and given the amount of bodies missing, the draw was probably a fair result which we might have just taken if offered before the start of the match.

Next up Halliburton at home in the North of Scotland Cup.
