OPPOSITION MOTM – P.Frampton

After four cup games in succession, Postal were happy to be back to league business today against Cammachmore at home.  After a lot of rain recently, the pitch was heavy but with no puddles lying on the pitch was given the go-ahead.

After a very decent showing in Cambuslang, Postal started Cormack in goal.  Due to injuries and holidays, a new look defence was on show with veteran MacDonald slotting in at right back, Dowbekin at Centre back alongside Patterson and Stuart coming in at left back.  New signing Duncan Mackenzie made his home debut, playing up top alongside Frampton.

Cammachmore line up with ex Posties Reece Law and Ally Macrae in their starting line up to add a bit of spice to the game.

Cammachmore started the game better than Postal.  Postal were struggling to get up the pitch and Cammachmore had four or five corner kicks in the opening 15 minutes of the match without really troubling Cormack.

Postal started to come more into the game though and had a good chance to go ahead on 20 minutes when Maciver was playing in behind the away defence, bearing down on the keeper from the Postal right.  He took his shot early but it lacked any real power to trouble the keeper.

Postal took the lead on 32 minutes.  A lovely sweeping move down the Postal left the saw the ball cut back to Maciver.  His shot was saved/blocked but only as far as Mackenzie who was on hand to prod the ball over the line for his first Postal goal (hopefully the first of many). 1-0.

7 minutes later, Postal doubled their lead, and it was that man Mackenzie again.  A through ball from Clark was sent into the path of the big man.  He chopped past the first defender and smashed in a low shot from distance low into the keeper’s right corner.  Great goal.  2-0.

On 41 minutes, Cormack pulled off two good saves.  The first came when the Postal defence went to sleep allowing the number 10 from Cammach to race in on goal.  Cormack managed to save, pushing the ball past his right hand post.  From the resultant corner, a stramash in the 6 yard line saw Cormack again do well to palm the ball off the line.  Well done.

HALF TIME – POSTAL ALC 2 – Cammachmore 1

Postal started the second half shooting down the slope and had a half chance 3 minutes in.  Good work by Clark to run with the ball into the heart of the away defence.  The ball eventually fell to Mackenzie but his shot was saved.

On 9 minutes, Frampton had a good chance when he was sent in behind the away defence on the left.  Similar to Maciver’s chance in the first half, but he shot past the post.

As can happen in amateur football, when you don’t take your chances, you risk the other team coming back at you.  On 14 minutes, Wiley (who was having a really good game playing centre mid) gave the ball away 25 yards out.  The Cammach player came forward and shot from distance which somehow trundled under the legs of Cormack in goal.  2-1. Game on.

Cammach tried to put Postal under pressure but never really troubled Cormack again.

Postal regained their two goal superiority on 29 minutes.  MacDonald won the ball on the Postal right, threaded in Frampton who continued into the box and blasted the ball into the net off the keeper for his 9th of the season.  3-1.

On 31 minutes, Postal should have put the game out of sight.  Good work by Frampton down the Postal left saw the ball cut back to Hunter about 10 yards out.  With the goal gaping, he sent his shot over the bar.

Cammachmore huffed and puffed but never really created anything further to worry the Postal keeper.

Overall, a decent performance today against a well established 1st Division Club and another 3 points on the board.  Well done.
