Postal ALC endured a frustrating but ultimately resiliant performance as they battled back to earn a draw against a good Monymusk side.
The game began with Monymusk on the front foot, and they made their early pressure count. In just the 5th minute, a long throw into the box caused problems for the Postal defence. The ball bounced awkwardly and fell kindly to Musk’s number 11, who reacted quickest and smashed home from close range to give the visitors an early 1–0 lead.
Postal looked to respond and began to grow into the game. On 12 minutes, Wallace cut in sharply from the left and unleashed a left-footed effort that forced a solid save from the Musk goalkeeper. Just two minutes later, a big opportunity went begging. Riddell delivered a dangerous free kick into the box, finding Giulianotti unmarked just five yards out, but his free header failed to hit the target.
Musk remained a threat from set pieces, winning a corner on 22 minutes, though Postal stood firm with the effort striking the defensive wall and being cleared. The game became increasingly physical, and Giulianotti found himself in the referee’s book on 34 minutes.
Postal continued to push for an equaliser as the half wore on. In the 38th minute, Walalce tested the keeper with a left-footed shot that was well saved, before Harry saw his follow-up effort blocked moments later. However, there was a scare at the other end in the 39th minute when a miscommunication at the back saw Webster’s pass slip under Brechin’s foot into the path of Musk’s number 9. Fortunately, Grant reacted quickly, racing out to make an important save and keep Postal in the game.
Chances continued to come for Postal before the break. In the 43rd minute, Ahmed delivered a ball to the back post where Steele arrived, but he couldn’t keep his effort down. Then right on half-time, Postal created perhaps their best move of the half. McAuley broke through on goal but, instead of shooting, cut back and squared the ball to Steele, whose effort was blocked by a recovering defender.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Postal creating opportunities but struggling to convert. On 52 minutes, Steele delivered a cross into the box that found Wallace, but he couldn’t connect cleanly with his volley. Three minutes later, a Postal corner fell to Wallace again, but his shot drifted wide.
Musk reminded Postal of their threat on 63 minutes with a well-struck volley, but Grant was equal to it, producing another important save. Moments later, Postal came agonisingly close to levelling the score. From a throw-in on 65 minutes, Giulianotti controlled well and struck a powerful effort that crashed against the post.
Postal continued to press forward with determination. On 72 minutes, McAuley drove forward and fed Wallace, but his shot sailed over the bar. A minute later, neat interplay between Webster and Ahmed saw the latter played clean through on goal, but he blazed his effort over, another big chance missed.
The pressure kept building. On 75 minutes, Webster delivered a cross to Russell, who found space but couldn’t keep his shot down, firing over from a promising position.
Finally, Postal’s persistence paid off. In the 76th minute, Giulianotti took a quick free kick, catching the Musk defence off guard. The ball found Ahmed, who made no mistake this time, blasting home emphatically to bring Postal level at 1–1.
A game defined by missed chances but strong character from Postal ALC. Despite going behind early, they created numerous opportunities and struck the woodwork, refusing to let their heads drop. Their persistence was rewarded with a deserved equaliser, though they may feel they did enough to take all three points on another day.
