Postal made the trip to Sheddocksly for the second week running to play Bon Accord City.  The teams had met earlier in the season with Postal coming out 3 – 2 winners thanks to a Steven Abel wonder goal.  Further changes had to be made, the team lined up as below:

  1. Grant Cormack

  2. Andrew Riddell

  3. Bruce Webster

  4. Craig Mackie (S)

  5. Euan Brechin

  6. Adam Veitch

  7. Harry McAuley

  8. James Steele (S)

  9. Mark Robb (S)

  10. Alex Clark

  11. Sultan Ahmed

Bench:

  1. Andreas Jones (S)

  2. Steven Abel

  3. Robbie Simmons (S)

  4. Barry Patterson

Straight from the warm up the differences in the two teams was clear to see.  Bon Accord chomping at the bit to get started whilst the Postal players looked like they had come straight from the pub following May day celebrations.

The game started with early pressure from the hosts, however it was Postal who won a corner in the 11th minute. Brechin rose well to meet it, but a foul was given against Ahmed for handball as he looked to put the ball in the back of the net. 16th minute Bon Accord won a corner of their own. Steele did well defensively to clear, allowing Veitch to drive forward, though the move ultimately came to nothing.

The breakthrough came in the 23rd minute with McAuley dispossessed in possession, Bon Accord capitalised quickly, playing a ball in behind Webster, and their number 15 finished clinically low into the net to make it 1-0.

1 – 0

Postal looked to respond, and in the 33rd minute Webster picked out Ahmed with a long pass. Ahmed controlled well and got a shot away, but the keeper made a solid save. Just two minutes later, Bon Accord doubled their lead. A well-worked move down the left ended with a cross to the back post, where their number 3 was left unmarked to slot home.  Poor goal for Postal to give away.

2 – 0

Postals effort continued, with Steele linking up well with Ahmed in the 42nd minute. Ahmed drove down the line but couldn’t keep his shot down. Steele picked up a booking just before the break, and the sides went in at half-time with Postal trailing 2-0.

In the 46th minute, Clark burst into the box and struck a left-footed effort that was well saved, with Robb unable to convert the rebound.

However, in the 63rd minute, Bon Accord extended their lead further. Another long ball found their number 15, who produced a moment of quality by flicking it over Brechin before finishing superbly into the top corner.

3 – 0

Postal were rewarded a consolation goal in the 76th minute. Steele delivered a dangerous free kick which Veitch met well. Although the keeper initially saved, Veitch reacted quickest to smash home the rebound and pull one back at 3-1.

3 – 1

Late in the game, Cormack made two excellent saves in the 89th minute to keep Postal in the match. There was a final chance to reduce the deficit in the 90th minute when Jones was brought down in the box. Ahmed stepped up to take the penalty, but the keeper guessed right and made the save.

A game in which Bon Accord fully deserved the win.  Postal looked very much the team that was out all day celebrating May Day, devoid of ideas and any fight for the tie.
