Postal ALC 2 - Huntly 3

Postal welcomed Huntly to Webster Park for this Div 2 North League match on a warm Monday evening.

Postal started the match well and were well worth their opening goal on 15 minutes when B.Patterson headed home a Maciver corner kick. 1-0.

On 19 minutes Postal had an excellent chance to double their lead when a throw in from Ure on the Postal right was eventually cut back to Beattie but his shot was straight at the keeper who saved easily.

On 22 minutes Postal gave away a cheap goal. The ball was given away on the half way line and one through ball later the square Postal defence could only look on as the striker fired home. Really poor stuff from an experienced back 4.

On 32 minutes Malseed should have regained Postals lead but his shot after doing well to drive into the box from left hit the side netting with only the keeper to beat.

On 37 minutes McAnespie for Postal was sent through on the keeper but his shot also went past the post.

HALF TIME - POSTAL ALC 1 - HUNTLY 1

Postal had the ideal start to the half when they scored within a minute of the restart. A mix up in the heart of the Huntly defence saw McAnespie latch on to the ball to bundle it home for his 3rd of the season. 2-1.

A great save from the young Huntly keeper denied Malseed 13 mins into the second half when his diving header was turned away to safety.

Controversy struck on 13 minutes of the second half. With the referee still stuck at the bottom end of the pitch he somehow managed to detect that a Huntly shot had hit a Postal defenders hand and awarded a penalty which was dispatched past Laing. Very dissapointing decision for Postal to take but to be honest the ball could have been cleared 3 times before the striker got his shot away so they need to take part of the blame. 2-2.

Only 5 minutes later and Postal handed the winner to Huntly. With Postal attacking a set piece the ball was cleared up the Postal left and with half the team still up the park the ball was in the back of the net for the winner. 2-3.

Postal huffed and puffed for the remainder of the game but too many high balls from the home side played directly into the hands of the young Huntly defence.

Another defensive horror show from the Posties today handed the points over in a game we should have won. That's 5 points dropped in games we largly dominated. Must do better.
