Postal arrived in Huntly with a very strong squad at their disposal for this Castle Rovers Cup (Div 2 North League Cup) first round tie.

The first half was very much a non-event. Both teams were well up for the battle but seemed to be cancelling each other out in midfield with very little of goal mouth action at all for either team.

The only chance worth noting was a Huntly free header on 28 minutes which Insch cleared from the Postal back post.

HALF TIME - HUNTLY AMATEURS 0 - POSTAL ALC 0.

The game came to life within a minute of the re-start.

Some good build up work from Malseed and Stuart saw Stuart lay the ball off to Connor Macanespie and from 16 yards the Postal striker stroked the ball home 0-1. Really good finish.

Unfortunately for Postal the lead was short lived. They gave away a poor corner only a minute later and the impressive Huntly no:7 outjumped Postal captain Patterson to head in the equaliser. Poor goal to lose.

As if that wasn't warning enough, the number 7 did exactly the same thing again 4 minutes later and it was only good fortune that his second header went just wide to save Patterson's blushes.

26 minutes into the second half saw the Huntly keeper make a good save when a Beattie free kick was headed down by Postal's Law towards goal but the keeper did well to save.

Postal were given further hope when Huntly were reduced to 10 men a minute later after a two footed challenge.

Huntly scored their second and ultimate winner 29 minutes into the second half. The Huntly player went by Postal right back Carter like he wasn't there and shot home from about 12 yard out.

Postal huffed and puffed for the remainder of the game but never really looked like creating anything and never looked like they had an extra man on the park either.

FULL TIME - HUNTLY AMATEURS 2 - POSTAL ALC 1.

Man Of The Match - N/A.

Overall, the Postal effort couldn't be questioned today but the quality just wasn't there. Too many passes going astray under little pressure and nowhere near the amount of chances created in previous games this season.

Add to that, 2 gifts of goals and it's out of the cup at first time of asking.

Maybe next year.

Next up it's Monymusk at home.
