OPPOSITION MOTM – P.FRAMPTON
This should have been a fairly easy match report as it was almost a carbon copy of the disappointing Lads Club performance from two weeks ago.
Postal started the first 20 minutes well and were more than matching the home side, who are currently a comfortable second in the division and coasting to promotion.
On six minutes, Postal created the first half chance of the afternoon when Ryan Insch sent a snapshot just past the post after coming in from the Postal right.
Postal also had a couple of free kicks in decent positions just outside the box within the first 20 where Insch saw his shot saved and Patterson sent one over the bar.
A more than decent start to the game from Postal.
On 20 minutes it was the home side who took the lead, though. A poor clearance from Postal's Law on the edge of the box was met on the volley by a Glendale forward. Trialist keeper Thouless did really well to save to his right but the Postal defence had went to sleep and another Glendale player was lurking, unmarked, and finished impressively high into the net from the Postal right of the box. 1-0.
Postal responded well and equalised 6 minutes later with a great individual goal from Peter Frampton. He collected the ball to his feet about 30 yards from goal, spun his marker, drove into the box and duly dispatched low past the Glendale keeper. 1-1.
Postal were on a high at this point and had another decent effort when Law struck one from 25 yards which just sneaked past the post. Really good shot and unlucky not to take the lead.
On 35 minutes Postal cut their own throats. McMahon for Glendale was allowed to dance around the Postal box with the ball at his feet. When he drove into the box Law went to ground and gave the referee no option but to give a pen after a clumsy attempt at a tackle. Silly stuff. The pen was sent past Thouless to give the home side the lead. 2-1.
Glendale doubled their lead in controversial fashion on 40 minutes. A ball over the top of the, flat, Postal defence saw the Postal keeper run out to clear, just outside the box. Glendale's forward got to the ball first but also followed through on the Postal keeper's knee, leaving 2 massive stud marks which ultimately forced him to be replaced at half time. The referee waved play on, but that said, Postal should have done better to avoid the ball ending up in the net. As the ball was sent high into the air and bounced towards the net Patterson had the chance to head clear but allowed the advancing Robb for Glendale to beat him in the air to head over the line.3-1.
HALFTIME - GLENDALE 3 - POSTAL ALC 1.
The second half was a defensive nightmare from Postal.
The first came on 9 minutes when a ball down the Postal left hand side saw an unmarked Glendale player allowed to drive into the box where his cross/shot was bundled home by veteran Robb for Glendale again. Poor organisation positionally from Postal and man marking that would embarrass schoolboy players. 4-1.
Glendale scored a 5th, 5 minutes later. A simple enough throw-in from the Postal right hand side into the 6 yard area was allowed to bounce and then Robb got his hat-trick with an overhead kick. Again, the man marking would have to be questioned from Postal but a cute finish from a forward, old enough to be some of the Postal boys Dad. 5-1.
Frampton scored another impressive goal 20 minutes into the half when he fed the ball to Insch, Insch then rounded the keeper, gave the ball back to Frampton who finished well for his 3rd goal of the season. 5-2.
On 30 minutes Insch looked offside but was allowed to run in on the keeper. He lifted it over the keepers head but it was nowhere near the goal and nobody following in allowed the chance to be lost.
The cherry on top of a grim defensive performance came on 41 minutes. Patterson was left isolated in the middle of the Postal defence, one-on-one with McMahon who danced by him like he wasn't there and slotted past Laing to make it 6-2.
Stuart had a half chance to score a consolation on 44 minutes when he combined with Frampton but his shot sailed over the bar.
Overall, a very similar story to the recent Lads Club match. Postal looked very good for long periods of the match, against a team second in the league, but defensively, an utter shambles.
Unless it's against a top 1st Div or Prem League team, an amateur defense should never be losing 5 or more goals in a single game but this will be 5th time it's happened to Postal this season, so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out why we're not winning matches.
Next up BSFC at Balgownie to try and get this one out our system. Cant come soon enough.
